I-485 Receipt date: Jul 27, 2007
Steps taken:
SR opened for my petition around July 17th: Response stated that my petition was in the adjudications department, and was for an officer to be assigned.
Status enquiry through the local congresswoman Aug 12th: Same result as my SR.
SR opened for my wife Aug., 10th: No response yet
Infopass appointment on Aug. 16th: Both petitions with an officer since Aug. 12th.
I appreciate the forum and all the support it offers. Donated last month.

Mehul, After reading your post, I feel very bad for what you are going through and my heart goes out to you and your family. I know nothing of what I say is enough to help you but again, I still say it with the hope that things will turn around for you. GOD HAS HIS WAYS, AND HE IS THE ULTIMATE FORCE IN THIS WORLD. I have often wondered, the chase we chase. The reality is nothing else matters but HIM yet it is so difficult to accept this reality and we chase the materialistic things in him which at the end, every one of us writing here and reading is going to leave behind one day.
GOD IS KIND, HE WILL LOOK AFTER YOU. PRAY TO HIM, SINCERELY. I suggest you take all the treatments there is and Don't worry you will come out of this. He will protect you and many prayers come your way. I will definitely pray for you and your family.

Both of you can work together so you have a backing. And like someone earlier posts said, make sure your finances are strong and have a family backing in US.

Please whats all these arguments about? MS from the states, BS + 10 years experience etc. Please we don't need all these. There are people that come to the states and dont even pay a dime in tuition instead they even get paid - in the form of research assistanships and scholarships.
Whatever the case, it is not fair to come to the US work for a long period of time and then get thrown out (say after 6 years) like the H1B visa.
What we need to concentrate our energy and efforts on is for congress to create a PATH for SELF SPONSORSHIP of GCs. For example, if u have lived LEGALLY in the US for 5 or more years, paid taxes and stayed out of troble then you should be able to apply for a green card. That gives you some hope that if I do such and such then one day I'd qualify for a green card. It also takes care of those that started counting as F1 then H1. It balances out everything.
The way it is now, there is no hope. Everything is uncertain. We are living uncertain lives. If we get sacked, we dont even know what step to take next. It is so dipressing and furstrating. Thats exactly what it is tempoary workers living TEMPOARY LIVES. Some are just waiting until 6 years H1 B expires and then .... yes and then what?? They dont even know. As it is most employers are unwillingly to sponsor GC. Why go through all the troubles??
Of course a lot of guys have gone ahea and gotten married just to get GC and which brings back the question... who is the system designed for? Those who struggle to abide by the law or those who take the short but fraudlent route. Your guess is as good as mine.

Honestly i dont think any one person should "organize" it. If something goes wrong, then organizer will be held which is un-necessary trouble for some one wanting to do good!

After doing research, I am thinking that my case may move to Texas Service centre. If I get SRC receipt number, it will be good. My I-140 can be processed within 4 months.
Since it reached before July 30 it can reach anywhere !
Though I would say pray for TSC !

I applied my 485 on 18th and reached Neberaska.
I have been calling USCIS for the last 5 weeks.Today they gaveme my receipt number only for I-765 and not for others.These were porcessed on Sep18.i have not had the receipt in hand.
My checks are also not cashed at this time .Is some one in the same sitiuation as I am.
Let me know

I was shocked to read your post and tears rolled on my cheeks. But I admire your determination to achieve your goal. Oh my God! You are a different kind of guy, Please don't lose your hope. I really don't know what kind of cancer and what stage are you at but I believe miralcles do happen. We all will pray for you. We wish you the best. You can download the form from SSA website and fill the information for each applicant and take it to the SSA office. You can get rid of 'authorized to work with INS permit only' label of your SS card by using the same form and get a new card.

They will take the info, shred the old cards, forms, etc. and will mail the cards to your address...Just check other thread ' Dos and Donts after GC' fo rmore info, and open a separate thread so as to not to mix up the original content of the thread...

Just called FedEx to find out why mine is not delivered yet. According to her, all USCIS packets remain at local FedEx facility. It seems FedEx will notify USCIS that there are packages to be picked up and they will be picked up by the USCIS agent (mail man??). It seems USCIS dont actually allow packets into their bldg. She says FedEX has no control on when the USCIS agent will come and pick up the package
